If you like poetry and love a good poetry slam you should definitely check out the Nuyorican Poets Cafe on the Lower East Side. I have been several times and I always enjoy the performances. It is strongly suggested that you get there early because there is always a long line to get in (it’s that awesome). There have been times when I’ve gone and had to stand because I didn’t get there early enough but it was still fun despite having to stand up the entire time.
Mondays – Open Mic at 8pm
Wednesdays – Slam open mic
Thursdays – Latin Jazz Jam at 9pm
Fridays – Poetry Slam at 10pm
Every third Saturday – Hip Hop and Poetry Showcase at 10pm
and other various events throughout the month.
The cost to attend is cheap, varying between $5-10 depending on the event and whether or not you are a student.
