Truly the city where dreams are made – you can do and be anything that you want in the concrete jungle, so why not live a Gatsby life? I just love the style, glamour, and flair of the 1920s, and in NYC you can still pull your flapper dresses and tops hats out of the closet and paint the town red at a speakeasy or party.
Upcoming Gatsby Inspired Events
Jazz Age Lawn Party – held every year, twice a year (June and August) on Governor’s Island. Come with friends and family dressed in your best 1920s ensemble! Dance to live music from Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra, enjoy carnival style games, checkout the antique cars, picnic on the lawn, and sip era-appropriate cocktails at this Prohibition era soiree! – August 17th and 18th, 2013
Unfortunately I have been here for 4 years already and I still have yet to make to this event because I’m either out of town or at work. Hopefully I can check it out next June before I leave NYC. I’d love to hear about your experiences if you have the opportunity to go.

5 Fab Speakeasies
Beauty and Essex – 146 Essex St, the entrance is a pawn shop, but once you get through door number 2 you enter a beautiful space with 2 levels, a rockin DJ, and bathrooms with plush couches with champagne being served. This is one of my favorite spots in the city.
The Bathtub Gin – 132 Ninth Ave, inspired by the prohibition era you find 1920’s inspired drinks and the servers are dressed in Flapper Attire.
The Back Room – 102 Norfolk Street, disguised as an antique toy store the entrance sign reads “Lower Eastside Toy Company”. Liquor is served in teacups and beer is wrapped in brown paper bags before being served. Splurging for a VIP night out? A trick bookcase wall acts as the entrance into the VIP Lounge.
The Raines Law Room – 48 West 17th St, secretly disguised as a private residence, ring the buzzer to get inside. The lounge area is filled with loads of amazing antique furniture, and the tables come equipped with buzzers to call your waitress.
PDT (Please Don’t Tell) – 113 St. Marks Pl, tucked behind a hot dog shop you find this hidden gem. When you walk into Crif Dogs you’ll find an old fashioned phone booth – go inside, pick up the phone and ring the buzzer to be let in.
