Out and About

Linganore Winery Caribbean Wine Festival

I’m always up for a roadtrip, no matter the distance, so when we heard about a Caribbean Wine Festival happening in Mt. Airy, Maryland (just outside of Baltimore) we packed up the car full of picnic goodies and got on the road. Food, wine , friends, and a live Caribbean band had everyone dancing and laughing from 10am – 6pm575401_567322709974837_1387092188_n

City Scenes

Madison Square Eats ran the month of May, so I took some friends, that were in town for a one stop shop of Food Trucks and had a delicious Maine Style Lobster Roll and Maine Organic Rootbeer. Then, I bounced around the city testing out the new Citibank Bike Program, got a free bare minerals make over in Madison Square Park (Have you tried their products before? I’ve fallen in love), and explored DUMBO and Park Slope.

Lunch time fun at Slate

A fun place to grab lunch or hangout on Friday and Saturday nights. They’ve got pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball tables, and large flat screen tv’s galore! I found them through a deal on Gilt City and tried out their veggie burger with fries and a Stella. If you’re in the city check out their lunch special – Mondat thru Friday from Noon – 3pm purchase an hour of pool for $8 and get a free lunch! That’s right FREE. When they told me about it I couldn’t believe myself. Free? In Manhattan? – Yep! Check it out for yourself!IMG_4189

From Manhattan to Brooklyn Continued….

Many tourists flock to the Brooklyn Bridge during their visit to NYC to either walk or bike across the bridge. This past Sunday was an absolutely beautiful in NYC, and a perfect day to take a walk across the bridge. So after brunch, a few beers, and the Giants vs Seahawks game (let’s not talk about that) we took the 6 train down to the Brooklyn Bridge stop. As soon as we excited the subway station we only had to walk across the street to begin our journey from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge

The crowd wasn’t too bad in my opinion. I definitely think it could have been a lot worse, and I’m sure that it has been. Everyone was friendly and excited to make the walk across the bridge. There are two paths, one for those who choose to bike across and the other for walking. There were times when people would walk into the bike lane, excited to snap a picture, and those riding bikes would ring their bells or shout to let people know they were coming through. Definitely pay attention if you choose to make the trip across the bridge for your safety, cyclists, and those around you.

When you get to the center of the bridge there are carts selling ice cream, water, juice, and others snacks in case you need to re-hydrate or grab a snack before either continuing on or going back to Manhattan. Views from the center of the bridge are amazing. You can seeing the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, Governors Island, and the Statue of Liberty.

Manhattan Bridge

It seems as though most people choose to relax on benches near the center of the bridge and then make the trip back, because the crowd seemed to thin out as we continued on towards Brooklyn. Once we reached the Brooklyn side we found signs in the sidewalk directing us to other places in Brooklyn and the distance of each location from the Bridge. I have always wanted to go and explore DUMBO and the Brooklyn Bridge Park after hearing so much about it, so we headed in that direction.

The walk from the bridge to the park did not take very long at all, and the road leading to the park is lined with cute shops, bookstores, and places to grab a bite to eat. Where we entered there is a playground and a carousel, and lots of grass and beaches for people to sit and relax. People were in the park playing fetch with their dogs, children played on the playground and road the carousel. A few people were doing a photo shoot, and others just lay on the grass with their laptops or chatted with friends. We found a place to sit, pulled out the iPad to play some games and watched as the sunset.

Sunset on the Brooklyn Bridge

This was a perfect way to end the day and I’m glad I made the trip. I will definitely do it again when friends and family come in town, and I’ve heard about a workout called the Brooklyn Bridge Boot camp that I’m curious to try one day. I hear its pretty intense.

Has anyone else ever walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. What was your experience like? Would you do it again?

See the slide show below for more pictures of our trip.
