Mega Match-a-Thon

Super cute puppies and sweet little kittens galore! Last Friday, I volunteered with the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals for their 3-day Mega Match-a-Thon with the ASPCA on 67th and Broadway. Cats and dogs from several different Alliance Participating Organizations, including the ASPCA, Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C), Animal Haven, the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor’s Alliance, and Sean Casey Animal Rescue, were housed in adoption vans parked curbside for the event.

Volunteers assisted with feeding and walking dogs, photography, answering questions from the public, and adoption preparations. I had a great time playing with the pups and kitties while they waited to be adopted and taking pictures of the event. The crowd turn out on Friday was awesome! I volunteered from 2pm-5:30pm and had the opportunity to see 5 cats and 2 dogs go home!

Check out more pics from the event below!

I can’t wait to volunteer at the next event! Having a pet is awesome, especially if you can adopt a little one and give him or her a new home. Your dog or cat will always provide unconditional love and only expects the same in return. It does come with a bit of responsibility though, and is understandably a big decision.

My biggest challenge when training my little pup Cosmo was the potty training hurdle, once we got over that everything else felt like a breeze. Look at the sweet little guy :)

About the Mayor’s Alliance:

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters.

To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015.

If you’d like to volunteer with the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and/or the ASPCA you can find more information on their websites:
