During Fashion Week I had the opprotunity go behind the scenes of a show with Vocab Magazine in the beautiful, 3-story Limelight Shops. From a 19th century church, to an iconic nightclub in the 80’s and 90’s, to a indoor marketplace, this was a wonderfully unique space for Alhassan Toure to present his line “The Evolution”.

Spiked leopard moto jackets, checkerboard leather pants, leather harem pants, corduroy cargo pants, a wool houndstooth cargo jacket, a leather dress, and a snakeskin printed dress were some of my favorite pieces on the runway.
The Ghanian born celebrity designer had some really hot designs come down the runway, and attendees jump to their feet to give him a standing ovation as the models did their final walk down the runway. NYC = Fashion and I Love it! I’m looking forward to the opprotunity to attend more shows in September.
EMERGE! Fashion Runway Show, created and produced by Dionne Williams of D. Williams Public Relations Group, has become one of the top emerging designer platforms during New York Fashion week. Every year hundreds of designer submissions are reviewed by an elite designer committee and this year’s 5 AMAZING designers chosen to unveil their newest collections to retail buyers, fashion editors, and fashion influencers are;
Hosted by Carissa Rosario and Justiin Davis, this was such an amazing show to attend – to feel the energy and to see the hard work of emerging designers all come together for one night on the runway during NY Fashion Week – definitely one of my favorites! Each designer had something for me to fall in love with, and I had the opportunity to hit the red carpet to meet the designers, models, and some of the honored guests.
Each season, EMERGE! presents the coveted ‘Fashion Innovator Award’. This year EMERGE! honored, living fashion and style Icon,Mikki Taylor.
Past award recipients have included, Audry Smaltz, President of the Ground Grew (presented to her by Harriette Cole); Constance C.R. White, Editor in Chief of Essence Magazine (presented to her by Tracy Reese); Andre’ Leon Talley, contributing editor of Vogue (presented to him by Diane Von Furstenberg).
No, snow storm is going to stop fashion week. The show must go on! NY Fashion Week = Loads of fabulous clothes and shoes, so I want to spotlight a wonderful new organization called“Beating Cancer in Heels”. I first learned about “Beating Cancer in Heels”while covering the Tene Nicole Marketing and Publications Firm’s 2nd Annual Shopping Night Out (SNO) in October last year. This event was created by the firm to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness month and the money raised goes to the “Beating Cancer in Heels” organization. Here are a few pictures from the event. There were even some Mob Wives in the building showing their support :)
Beating Cancer in Heels was founded by Brooklyn native Marlena Ortiz who began her journey at the age of 25 when she was first diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, a major frustration she had was the feeling that she no longer felt feminine, and wanting to feel like a “normal” young woman again. Realizing that other women have the same struggle she founded Beating Cancer in Heels in 2011 and has committed herself to changing the face of the disease.
“The foundation is dedicated to the empowerment of women by providing programming that helps the individual function in their own world with a positive attitude, and a face of hope and strength. Marlena is building a program through the foundation to provide “one on one life coaching” for women who seek advice and support at no cost.Through life coaching and social and beauty programs, participants will be able to go“Stepping Out” once again into a normal, happy life. The unique face of each woman is celebrated, and the “just BEYOU” mantra teaches women how to embrace the future, confident in who they are now, and who they will become in the future. A woman with a face of her own, not the face of cancer.” – www.beatingcancerinheels.org
In the coming months the nonprofit’s focus will be on gaining the endorsements and financial support needed to make Beating Cancer in Heels a reality, and to help countless women find the fashionista within. Check out this video from “What’s the 411” of last years shopping night out event – watch for Marlena’s interview!
