My Fleet Week Adventures in NYC

“Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week New York is the City’s celebration of the sea services. This annual event also provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today’s Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team. Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.” – Fleet Week

I had the opprotunity to participate in some pretty awesome events when I wasn’t in the office:

~ Will Smith’s Men In Black III cast party and interview with Good Morning America at the Intrepid Air and Sea Museum. When my supervisor asked for volunteers I was the first one to raise my hand and I barely slept the night before the event. I’ve been a fan of Will Smith for years and it was very cool to actually meet him in person. I was even more excited to find out that our picture is on People Magazine‘s website too! Check it out!

~ A private concert for Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen at the Beacon Theater where Kip Moore and Tim McGraw performed. Definitely one of THE BEST concerts I’ve been to in a while.

This year Fleet Week marked the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. Did you visit any of the ships during fleet week?

Next up! Opsail Virginia in Norfolk June 1st – June 12th and Fleet Week Baltimore June 13th – June 19th!
