Give Your Dress A Second Dance!

Do you have any old dresses hanging in your closet you don’t plan to wear again? Donate your old prom dress or any dress to Project GLaM! (Prom Dress for Deserving Girls In Need)

“The WGIRLS created Project “GLaM” to provide underprivileged girls with prom dresses and accompanying accessories so that they are able to enjoy the rite of passage of their high school prom. Project “GLaM” stands for Granting Lasting Memories, and  WGIRLS achieves that for thousands of economically disadvantage high school  aged women throughout the country by providing what they need to have a successful and glamorous evening with their classmates.” –WGIRLS

WGIRLS chapters nation-wide accept donations of  new and gently-worn dresses and accessories, and new cosmetics to allow young women to dance the night away at their prom.  To give your dress and/or accessories a “Second Dance,” or to join the  WGIRLS Prom Squad and throw a drive of your own, please contact projectglam@wgirls.org for collection information.

A Night Out with WGIRLS NYC

On Thursday December 1st the WGIRLS NYC threw their 7th Annual Hope for the Holidays Fundraiser at Sway for 200 guests. It was a giant success due to an hour and half open bar provided by Patron, Ulimat, and Banfi Vintners, music by Michael Demby and great sponsors like Tieks, Uber, Laser Cosmetica and Crunch.

WGIRLS NYC

WGIRLS was founded by a small group of professional women in NYC under the leadership of Amy Heller. “The WGIRLS has expanded into an international organization weith 12 chapters in the United States and chapters in the UK and Austrailia. They provide programing to disadvantaged women and children in our local communities, and since it’s inception they have donated more than $500,000 dollars in grants  and provided hundreds of hours of volunteer services to partner organizations.” – WGIRLS

This year’s fundraiser event helped WGIRLS NYC purchase, wrap, and deliver gifts for hundreds of Little Flower foster children and their families. Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a not-for-profit charity serving children, families and developmentally disabled adults across New York City and Long Island. The Foster Care Program provides safety and care for thousands of neglected, abused and abandoned children. They strive to match children with appropriate foster parents according to their experiences, strengths and skills. The success of the program is evident when many of these children are able to safely return to their birth families, or are adopted by foster parents and gain a permanent family.

At the end of the night many guests left with amazing raffle and silent auction prizes. Activties seemed to be the favorities of the night,  the prize with the most bids was a dinner at CrossBar and bowling for 8 with appetizers at Lucky Strikes  and the raffle bag with the most tickets was for 4 passes to Chelsea Piers and a gift certificate to Zog Sports.
