Wine Tasting in Williamsburg

Last weekend while exploring the battlefields of the Historic Triangle (Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg) my roommate and I saw signs for the Williamsburg Winery. Curious, I did a quick google search on my phone for the winery to be sure they were open and reset the GPS for our new destination.

We arrived just in time for the 2pm tour and tasting. The tour began with a 10 min video that provided information on the history of the winery and the process from grapes to wine that lasted approximately 10min or so, and then our group was taken around the winery. We were shown where the barrels are stored and informed on the storing process and how long certain wines are left to age, the different tools and machines used to prep, make, bottle, and cork the wine, and ended the tour with a tasting. We tried 7 different types of wine starting with whites, then reds, and ending with a dessert wine. Crackers and smoked Gouda cheese (one of my favorites) were provided as palate cleansers and flavor enhancers. My favorite of the ones we tried was the 2007 Vintage Reserve Chardonnay and the 2006 Gabriel Archer Reserve.

each barrel holds enough wine for approx 300 bottles

stainless steel tanks that hold up to 30,000 gallons of wine

Wine Tasting :)

If you’re ever in the area I would highly recommend stopping by and visiting the winery. The trip was so relaxing, the wine was yummy, the staff was pleasant and helpful, and at the end of the tour you get the keep the glass :)

Hello From Yorktown, VA

Hey guys! I’m in Yorktown, VA! I drove down last Sunday for a 3 week training. So far it’s been pretty relaxing. I have 2 roommates, who are going to road trip up to NYC with me this upcoming weekend to see some sites and watch the Off Broadway play “Dog Park”. They’ve never been to NYC so it’ll be fun to show them around town. The weather has been wonderful and I was finally able to set up my internet connection. I wish I had more time to go out and explore, but school comes first. The weather was so nice yesterday that as soon as class was over I went for a 3 mile run around the battlefields
